Volunteering is great :)

One thing that I think more people should do is volunteering. I mean there are always the crazy overachievers who do a million things at once, but really anyone could get involved in helping for the greater good. I love helping out people, and I got a good taste of the volunteering world with my peer group Community 101 project. Community 101 was a project in which our sophomore peer group class were granted $5,000 from PGE to distribute out to different non-profit organizations in our community. Based on a survey that the whole school took, we decided to focus on Homelessness and Foster Care. We had 7 non-profit organizations apply for Community 101 funds and I personally got to go see four of the non-profits during our site visits. Doing something good just makes you all warm and fuzzy inside. I really think that more people would benefit from volunteering if they just got involved. One thing that would help more people get involved is if the school board required a volunteering class to graduate. I think that if more students tried volunteering, they would get hooked. Just like me :)

True Heroes

Everyone can benefit from a role model in their life. I guess you could call them a “hero” but really they aren’t saving your life or anything. They are just making it extremely better! If someone asked me who my hero was without giving me time to think about who it would be, I would definitely say my parents. But since thats probably what everyone would say I’m going to talk about my ballet teacher, John Grensback. He has taught me much much more than just pliĆ©s and tendus. Every day I walk into the studio knowing that I am going to do well. I have grown so much mentally and physically to become the person that I am and I believe he has something to with it. My mind is trained to learn complicated steps very quickly and to retain constructive criticism, which are great skills to have in life. John is a hardworking guy, I admire his work ethic. Its something that I would like to work on myself. I really like how he loves us all in a special way. We are his students, his friends, and sort of like his children. Even if I don’t grow up to be an amazing dancer in the Joffrey Ballet or something prestigious like that, I have acquired skills to lead me through whatever life throws at me. :)

Alligators

I think that alligators should be released into the wild rather than being held against their will in captivity for a couple of major reasons. One being that all animals in general would like the wild better than captivity just like the african american slaves wanted freedom. Its immoral! But who doesn’t love a good trip to the zoo :) Alligators are one exciting reason to visit the zoo because you would have to travel to a very exotic place in order to see one in its natural state, and some people can’t afford a tropical vacation every time they want to glance at an alligator. I think that the zoo people should just let out all the alligators in Oregon and let them run free. Just warn everyone to watch their step and don’t extend any limbs too far out.

Here is a good alligator video: Watch this!

Shades of GREEN

Hands down, the best color in the whole wide world would have to be green. Its so versatile!

The color green can relate to pretty much anything, especially our Earth! So many of the animals that live here are green, automatically making them the coolest.

Parakeets are pretty neat, they are even neater when they are green. The blue ones come is second place for coolness. I think that everyone should vote for green to be the new color of love just like the M&M’s did. Because pink and red are SO overrated!

M&M’s are pretty delicious. Green is so uplifting with a hint of mystery. Speaking of mystery, GREEN plays a part in the great game of clue. Which pretty much represents every board game that is actually fun.

Mr. Green is my second favorite Clue character, after Miss Scarlet only because I’m a girl. If I were a boy, I would most definitely pick Mr. Green, no questions asked!

Green, Green, Green, the best color ever! If this post isn’t completely persuading you to change your favorite color, I have failed as a writer. So don’t send my life into a spiraling depression, and love the color green :)

Earth Day!

Ah Earth Day,

Earth day is the day for everyone to potentially limit all their waste and think of Mother Earth for a change. I couldn’t tell you the precise amount of how many people actually partake in the day celebrating our planet, but i can’t believe its a very high number. A lot of people think Earth Day is just for hippies, but its really not! Everyone should limit their personal waste everyday, but of course that doesn’t happen. So at least be eco-friendly for one day out of a year. Its really not that hard. I like to think of myself as economically sound, but when i look around at my life, its just the same as all the other wasteful people. I think that this Earth Day I will gladly take part in our green festivities and be happy. And maybe even sing Kumbaya with the hippies :)

#8 – Podcast: Uglies by Scott Westerfeld

#7 – Slice of Life Writing

It was a pleasing yet ironic thought, so I went with it. “Ooh Ooh! I know what I wanna be! A body-builder!” Nobody seemed to object, so I walked through the false door and waited my turn. Stress fills the air around me, but I quickly forget it and stride out the door as if I have massive muscles.

“RAWR I COME FROM RUSSIA!”, I scream with the intensity of a robust giant. Stevie is confused, so she goes on to the next person as I use imaginary dumbbells to enhance my character. At last she is only left with me in the party scene.

“Arnold Schwarzenegger?”, she hypothesizes.

“Nope!”, I grin.

“The Rock! No, wait, a body-builder!”. Everyone laughs, picks up their bags, and heartily exits the theater.

#6 – Podcasting: A Literary Connection

The Podcast that I discovered was called Drowning Anna. I was intrigued by the title to begin with, so I listened. It’s about a girl named Anna that gets constantly bullied by her peers to the point of suicide. It sounded really sad, and its currently on my list of books to read. I owe that to the fantastic job of the podcast-er if thats politically correct. They music they used fit the story-line to a T. It was sort of depressing, with a harmonic melody to lighten the mood. The content was good too, because it didn’t give away the story, but it shared just enough to get me to want to read it. Which is exactly what a podcast is supposed to do. So this is what I want my podcast to be modeled after, since they did such a superb job :)
